SSI offers a wide variety of high-quality premium base oils group I, II & III, White mineral oils USP, transformer oils, black oils, process oils, and naphthenic oils for a wide variety of applications. Our products are available in bulk, flexitanks, IBC, and drums.
Base oils are divided into paraffinic, naphthenic and synthetic. The American Petroleum Institute (API) has categorized into five categories, Group I, Group II, Group III, Group IV and Group V. Properties are depicted below.
API BASE OIL CATEGORIES
Base Oil Category | Sulfur (%) | Cond | Saturates (%) | Viscosity Index |
Group I (solvent refined) | >0.03 | and/or | <90 | 80 to 120 |
Group II (hydrocracked) | >0.03 | and | <90 | 80 to 120 |
Group III (hydrocracked) | >0.03 | and | <90 | >120 |
Group IV | Pao Synthetic Lubricants
Group V | All other base oils not included in Groups I, II, II, or IV |
Group I Base Oils are solvent-refined and offer oxidation stability, good solvency for additives, and high viscosity. Group I base oils contain less than 90 percent saturates and/or greater than .03 percent sulfur and have VI greater than or equal to 80 and less than 120.

Group III Base Oils exhibit very low sulfur content and better oxidation stability (higher saturates, higher VI). They are chemically modified using catalysts to change the molecules thru hydroprocessing. A catalyst is chosen to perform specific molecular actions.

Group IV are Polyalphaolefin Oils (PAOs) synthesized by reacting specific raw materials and have a well-defined chemistry, are free of sulfur, unsaturated carbon bonds and waxes. They exhibit excellent lubricity due to their high V.I, high thermal and oxidative stability and low volatility.
Group V Base Oils are classified as all other base oils not included in Group I, II, III, IV such as silicone, phosphate ester, polyalkylene glycol (PAG), polyolester, biolubes, and others.
White Mineral Oils
WMO’s are produced using severe hydrogenation of paraffinic feedstocks utilizing a unique catalytic hydrotreating process. WMO’s are water white mineral oils of the highest purity. Our mineral oils meet The U.S. FDA regulation 21 CFR 172.878 for use in or on food for human consumption, and meet the current standards of the National Formulary (NF) or US Pharmacopeia (USP).

Process Oils are made from naphthenic or paraffinic crude oil. They exhibit low pour points, low aromatic content, excellent solvency thermal, oxidation and color stability. Paraffinic Process Oils, depending on the viscosity, are solvent refined or severely hydrofinished oils. Process Oils are widely use in applications such as natural & synthetic rubber, tires, coatings, adhesives, thermoplastic elastomers and defoamers.
